SUMMER 2023

Week-long Summer camps

In the summer of 2023, Golden State Rowing Club will be offering 1-week “head start” camps for those looking to start rowing in the Fall of 2023. No experience is necessary. Participants will spend time learning the fundamentals of rowing: the basics, the movement patterns, develop fitness.

We will offer five one-week camps through the summer. Athletes can sign up for multiple camps. After the first week, we will be splitting the group into an “introductory" group and an “advanced introductory” group. Advanced introductory rowers will build upon the skills they have learned in successive camps, working to ingrain the correct movement patterns as they develop.

Summer Camp Objective

Our goal with the camps is to prepare athletes for success in the sport in high school and beyond. Our camp is designed around three major components:

  • The basics: teaching athletes how to handle equipment, how to be comfortable in the boat, and how to safely manage practice on an active waterway

  • The movement patterns: Rowing is about leverage, and using your bodyweight to move the boat. Your basic movement patterns that you learn become foundational to the rower that you will become. We will teach the basic movement patterns on land, that will allow them to be successful on the water.

  • Fitness: base fitness and strength are fundamental to the sport. While this will not be the primary focus of the camp, there will be an element of developing fitness to prepare for a successful Fall introduction to rowing.

Camps run from 9:30 am -12:30 pm and groups are limited to 16 participants.

For those looking to continue building skills after the introductory camp, or who have discovered a new love for the sport and want to do more, you can register over multiple weeks.
